Image Editing
Use annotations to let AI edit images in the canvas
Kamay lets you edit images in the project space canvas with annotations. Select a region, describe the change, add reference images, and generate a new result.
Add Annotations
Step 1: Open Image
In the project space canvas, select the image you want to edit.
Step 2: Enter Edit Mode
Click Smart Edit in the image toolbar.
Step 3: Select Area
Click and drag on the image to draw the area you want to edit.
Step 4: Add Annotation
After selecting an area, an input box will pop up:
- Enter the edit request
- Click Add reference image to choose from local uploads, conversation images, or project images
- You can also paste an image directly as a reference image (Ctrl/Cmd + V)
- Click Confirm to show the region as a numbered marker
- If you want to close the editor for now, click Cancel or the close icon in the top right; the draft will be saved before it closes
Step 5: Submit Modification
You can keep adding more regions. When you're done, click Generate in the toolbar.
Tip Each region can have its own description and reference images. At least one region must include a description before Generate becomes available; reference images only support the request. You can also select multiple reference images at once.
Other Canvas Image Actions
When you select an image on the canvas, a toolbar appears above it. In addition to Smart Edit, you can use these actions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Crop | Remove unwanted parts of the image, with ratio presets, custom width and height, and aspect-ratio lock |
| Edit text | Detect text regions in the image, then smart edit text, delete text, or convert it to a text box |
| Resize | Generate new size versions using common ratios, Amazon presets, TikTok presets, or custom dimensions |
| Preview | Open a larger image preview, with zoom and drag controls |
| Download | Download the current image locally |
| Send to conversation | Add the image to the current conversation input for further AI analysis or processing |
| Save to project | Save the image into project resources |
| Copy | Copy the current image element |
| Delete | Remove the current image element from the canvas |
Note Crop, Smart Edit, Edit text, and Resize all generate new image versions instead of overwriting the original image. Deleting a canvas element does not automatically delete the original file from the project resource library.
Crop Image
- Select an image
- Click Crop
- Choose a ratio, or enter custom width and height
- Turn aspect-ratio lock on or off as needed
- Click Crop
Resize Image
- Select an image
- Click Resize
- Select one or more sizes, or enter custom width and height
- Click Generate N sizes
Tip You can generate up to 8 size versions at a time. If generation fails, you can retry or remove the failed item.
Edit Text in an Image
- Select an image
- Click Edit text
- Wait for Kamay to detect text regions in the image
- Select the text region you want to edit
- Choose Smart edit text, Delete text, or Convert to text box
- If you choose smart edit, enter the new text and save the change
- Click Replace to generate the updated image
Tip If no text region is detected, the image may not contain clear editable text. Text editing collects changes first, then generates a new result image.

What if AI doesn't understand my annotation?
Try:

Can I undo modifications?
The generated result is a new image and does not overwrite the original. You can delete the result you do not need or generate a new version.
